Curriculum Issues (EDUC 5246): The purpose of the course is twofold: (i) to examine major historical movements in the field of curriculum, and, (ii) to consider current procedures and trends in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation.
By the end of this course students will:
- Understand the historical context of curriculum.
- Understand the various models of curriculum.
- Understand the theory and design issues related to curriculum.
- Demonstrate an understanding of current processes/events impacting curriculum.
- Understand the issues related to curriculum implementation and evaluation.
Participation: While there are no classes to attend in person, it is an expectation that all members of the course will contribute to the discussions of all readings in a timely fashion, as per the posted schedule. Your posted comments/responses will be the clearest way for the instructor to know if you are actually reading and spending time on-line to equate to the hours spent in an on-site course offering (36 hours). Your participation mark will largely be determined by your on-line presence via comments/responses. Realistically, for a 36-hour course over 6 weeks, you should plan to spend approximately 6 hours per week in front of the computer reading colleagues’ and Instructor posts and responding.
