Elke Mayer worked for the Waterloo Region District School Board for 30 years in various roles. Early in her career she was a classroom (K-8) teacher, an adult educator, and German Language Instructor.
She held a number of positions of added responsibility with the WRDSB: Speech and Language Teacher, Special Education Consultant, and in her last 18 years prior to her retirement in 2003, Elke was an elementary school Principal.
Since her retirement she has been a Faculty Advisor with the Nipissing University Concurrent Education Program in Brantford starting in the second year of the program, 2003. She has also taught several AQ courses in Special Education for Nipissing University. In addition to her teaching and advising at Nipissing, Elke also works as an Educational Consultant for Family and Children’s Services of the Waterloo Region. In this position, she advises the agency on educational issues involving the children in their card and Crown Wards, and provides consultation and mediation between the Agency and the various schools and school boards attended by the Agency’s children.
She completed her undergraduate work at McGill and University of Waterloo and her Masters degree in Special Education and Curriculum from O.I.S.E / University of Toronto.
She is the mother of two grown daughters and lives with her two cats in Waterloo, Ontario.
