CAMERON FAMILY
MacGILLIVRAY FAMILY |
The Family History Virtual Archive has been created as a way to save small collections of material relating to family history which are unlikely to find their way into a traditional archive. This project was inspired by my students at Nipissing University who, in the process of studying social history, often come to realize the significance of their own family's history. Some have offered to make this material available to a wider audience. Digital technology makes this possible, as families rarely want to part with their precious heritage. They may, however, be willing to donate a digital copy of the material.
Over time, I hope to add other family document collections to this virtual archive. Although any one family may not have preserved a large niumber of documents, taken together, these may one day constitute a significant collection.
Social history helps us understand that we are part of history and that the momentos our family has kept in an old box are historical documents of value. As a teacher of social history, it is always a pleasure to see others come to that realization. This web site is dedicated to my students, past, present and future.
