Exercise 2 - Portrait of Official
Language Communities in Canada
Changing the Table Layout and Making
Charts
This exercise is a continuation of exercise
#1, in order for your table to display the same data as the proceeding
examples you must first do Exercise #1.
- You can change the layout of your table
(the particular variables) at any time by highlighting (single-click) the
cell you would like to move, and by dragging (hold your right mouse button
down while you move the cursor) it to it’s new location. Click
here to see where to move the geography cell to follow this exercise.
- Highlight the columns and rows you want
to display on a chart. For this example, highlight LaSalle, Outremont,
Saint Laurent, and Lachine for the geographic
areas. Also, select English
and French for the language.
- Click on the Chart
button on the toolbar. This displays a chart.
Note that the chart is of children aged 0 to 4 years (male and female).
- To change chart types, right-click on
the chart and choose Chart options from the menu. A Chart
option box shows up. Choose another chart type (see
picture), and uncheck the option box “Display Footnote”.
- This displays your updated
chart.
- To change the colours on your chart,
double click on one of the colours in the legend (double click on the yellow
colour in the legend). A Colour option box
shows up. Click on the drop-down arrow
and change the colour to purple.
- You are now finished exercise # 2 and
are familiar with changing the layout of the table and making charts.
