Lesson 4

Lesson 4 – Portrait of Official Language Communities in Canada
Displaying a Chart

  1. The Beyond 20/20 Browser allows you to chart data and creates a new window to display the chart in.  In order to make a chart, you must first select the Geographic area (choose Sudbury (3553007) C 00000) by using the Arrow buttons on the toolbar or by selecting View and choosing Dimension from the menu (see Lesson # 2 steps 2 to 6).
  2. Select the data you would like to display on the chart by clicking on column headings and row headings.  For this example, choose English and French for the column headings and ages 5 to 14 for the row headings.
  3. Click on the Chart button on the toolbar or choose View from the menu bar and select Chart from the menu.  This displays a Chart.
  4. To change to another type of chart, right-click (right mouse button) on the chart and select Chart Options from the menu.  A Chart Option box shows up.
  5. Select the Chart type. You can also make other changes found in the Other Options section (check or uncheck the Auto Axes or the Display Footnote checkboxes).  Make your changes and click on OK.
  6. To change the font of the text on a chart, double-click on the text you want to format (Ex: the chart title).
  7. A Font Dialog box comes up.  Select the font options you require.  Choose the OK button.
  8. To change the colours on a chart, double-click on the colour you would like to change.  A Bar Chart dialog box shows up.
  9. Select the colours you want to use.  Choose the OK button.
  10. To edit the Y-axis, double-click on the Y-axis.
  11. An Axis dialog box comes up.  Change the values and choose OK.
