Search E-Stat

There are two search functions in E-Stat:     Search CANSIM II    |    Census Search

Search CANSIM II:

CANSIM II is a multidimensional database containing several million time series regrouped in over 1,600 tables.  Here's how to use this search function:

  1. From anywhere in E-Stat, click on the "Search CANSIM II" link along the left border (SHOW ME).

  2. This link will bring you to the CANSIM II Search page (SHOW ME).  Notice that there is a "Help" link if you are having troubles.

  3. Under the "Search:" heading, choose "Keyword Search".  Now click the Continue button.

  4. For the best result, use the defaults provided.  In the "Search for" text box, enter your subject.

  5. You may also be interested in performing an advanced search.  To do this, click on the "Advanced Search" link at the bottom of the search function.

Census Search:

The census contains statistical overviews of geographic areas, for specific points in time.  Here's how to use this search funcion:

  1. From anywhere in E-Stat, click on the "Census Search" link along the left border (SHOW ME).

  2. The link will bring you to the "Available Databases" page (SHOW ME).  Notice that there is a "Help" link if you are having troubles.

  3. Under the "Census" heading, choose the census you would like to search.  Note that the 2001 Census may not be fully released.  Click here for the release schedule.

  4. Under the heading "Search for a characteristic", type your subject into the text box.  Now click the "Search!" button.

  5. You may also want to "Search for a geographic area".  To do this, choose the census you want to search, then type the name of the area in the text box provided.  Now click "Search!".  Note that the 2001 Census may not be fully released.  Click here for the release schedule.
