PSYC2267: PSYCHOLOGY OF ART II

Course Description

PSYC 2267 Psychology of Art II

Prerequisite: PSYC 2256 or permission from the instructor
Antirequisite: PSYC 2255
Hours: Three hours of lecture per week.
Credits: 3

This course examines each of the major creative arts in terms of the psychology of perception, cognition, and emotion, as well as the biological and evolutionary bases for some aspects of the aesthetic experience and art appreciation. Specific, exemplary artworks are presented and discussed. The relationship of the sciences to the traditional arts is also investigated.

PSYC 2267 is being offered as an online course in January 2012.

Those of you registered for the course will receive an email from the CFTL to their Nipissing University email account on the first day that online access is available (i.e. approximately two days prior to the course start).  You may wish to review the CFTL Undergraduate Study Guide which can be found here.

The format will be similar to this in-person one, in that there will be a discussion forum and a reflective journal.  Lectures will be replaced by modules which will include material written by me, and links to readings and AV material.  There will only be one exam, the final exam worth 32%, which will be taken in person at a test centre. Each module will have a very brief assignment associated with it, which is basically a very short 'open book' quiz, just used to insure you have reviewed the module material.

This course will look at specific arts, with special emphasis placed on the literary, the visual, and the musical, but almost any art form you can name will also examined.  Also considered is the ever changing relationship of the audience to the art form.
