A BIT ABOUT ME
I have recently retired (01 July 2006) after 35 years as a full-time faculty member and academic administrator at Nipissing University (formerly Nipissing College and Nipissing University College)
While at Nipissing, I have taught more than ten different mathematics (MATH) courses, as well as two physics (PHYS/GSCI) courses and a logic (PHIL) course
As a full-time faculty member, I was extremely active in Nipissing's governance, serving as Speaker of Senate for many years, as well as chair of the Computer Science & Mathematics (COMA) Department, Senate representative to the Board and chair of numerous Senate and Faculty committees
For eight years, from 1991 to 1999, I was Dean of Arts & Science and Acting VP Academic
During 2005-06 (my final year of full-time employment at Nipissing), I served as Vice-President Academic & Research (Interim)
I am currently teaching PHYS 1005 General Physics as a part-time instructor, a course which I have taught more than 30 times and about which I remain passionate
I am married, with three children and two grandchildren, and in retirement I intend to enjoy family time, reading, travel and my favourite hobby, which is playing and writing music, and recording in my home studio
I have performed in a variety of folk groups, rock and country rock bands, concerts and musical theatre productions over the years, and I especially love multi-part harmony vocal work
My main musical instrument is acoustic guitar, but I also own and have been known to play electric guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin, autoharp and keyboards
As a special retirement project, I intend to acquire and learn to play a rare and wonderful 12-stringed instrument known as a Chapman Stick; I also have aspirations to take formal piano lessons and learn to play button accordion
