Student Opportunities

If my research seems interesting and you have read over the introductory readings linked to this page, please make an appointment to meet with me to discuss the possibility of working in my lab.  Below find a brief descriptions of some of the types of positions available.

Volunteer

During your orientation and training in the lab you will typically work as a volunteer.  Although you are obviously not paid for this time your efforts will be noted and subsequent employment is very likely based on your commitment level and performance.  You will also gain valuable research experience that will enhance your resume and CV.

NSERC USRA

Please follow this link to learn more about NSERC     http://www.nserc.ca

Essentially this is a summer position that pays you nearly $6000.  If selected you will work for me in the lab fulltime from May to mid August.  I typically have one of these awards to give out each summer so please begin volunteering earlier in the year and mention your interest in the award.

Laboratory Assistant

These are paid positions in my lab that are typically supported by NIPWORKS or ONTARIO WORKS.  They are awarded to trained individuals that have been working in the lab as a volunteer. The rate of pay is typically between $8 and $11 per hour.  These positions can be held while you are working on your thesis project.  If you do not qualify for NIPWORKS, I may still be able to support you depending on the circumstances.
