Dr. Jarvis teaches courses in the teacher education (BEd) and graduate (MEd\/PhD) programs within the Schulich School of Education<\/a><\/strong> (Faculty Publication Poster<\/a><\/strong>) at Nipissing University<\/a><\/strong>, North Bay, Ontario. His research interests include math teaching, math\/technology use in the workplace, curriculum integration, and STEAM education.<\/p>\n

He has completed\u00a0a SSHRC-funded international (Canada\/UK) research project exploring the use of\u00a0Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) technology<\/strong><\/a> in undergraduate mathematics instruction. He has also worked on the following collaborative research projects: GeoVisage<\/em>, a spatial decision support tool for northeastern Ontario farmers (with Geography and Computer Science colleagues); technological and mathematical demands on nurses and nursing students<\/strong><\/a> and a DCCT Model implementation<\/strong><\/a> (with School of Nursing and BPHE colleagues); innovative CAS technology use in undergraduate mathematics teaching and assessment<\/a><\/strong> (with Dr. C. Buteau<\/strong><\/a>, Brock U;\u00a0Dr. C. Doran<\/strong><\/a>, U Alberta); and the Education for Innovation (E4I)<\/i><\/strong><\/a> Canadian Teacher Resource (with SSoE colleagues).<\/p>\n

Dan is the co-author (with Dr. Irene Naested) of the book,\u00a0Exploring the math and art connection: Teaching and learning between the lines <\/em><\/a><\/strong>(Brush Education, 2012); co-editor (with Dr. Susan Elliott-Johns) of the book,\u00a0Perspectives on transitions in schooling and instructional practice<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(University of Toronto Press, 2013); co-editor (with Dr. Mumbi Kariuki) of the book, Co-teaching in higher education: From theory to co-practice<\/strong><\/em><\/a>\u00a0(University of Toronto Press, 2017); and co-editor (with Dr. Julie Corkett, Dr. Jeff Scott, and Dr. Astrid Steele) of the book, Beyond and within: Living and teaching in majority world countries<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(CreateSpace, 2018).<\/p>\n

Dr. Jarvis served as Chair of Graduate Studies in Education<\/strong><\/a> (2011-13), and as Director (2021-22) and Associate Dean (Interim) of the Bachelor of Education <\/strong><\/a>programs (2022-24).
