Dr. McIntosh’s teaching responsibilities at Nipissing University include courses in Intermediate and Senior English.  She taught English and Special Education for 13 years with the Toronto District School Board.  She served as head and assistant head of English at Forest Hill Collegiate in Toronto.  Dr. McIntosh completed her M.Ed. at York University in Language and Learning Problems and her Ed.D. in Curriculum at OISE/UT.  Her doctoral thesis examines gender influence in the reader response journals of secondary English students.

Actively involved in the National Council Teachers of English and the Professors of Reading Teacher Educators (SIG of International Reading Association), Dr. McIntosh has presented papers at annual conventions in the United States.  Her research is in the area of English Education – response to literature and reader response journals.  She has written articles and conducted presentations on gender influence in response journals, pre-service English teachers' attitudes towards employing response journals in classrooms, and authentic engagement with text in student reader response journals. Dr. McIntosh's current research program focuses on the reader response journal implementation process used by both pre-service and novice teachers in intermediate and senior language arts/English classrooms.
