Globalization and the Welfare State

This course focuses on the welfare state in the era of globalization. It examines the different levels of social development and inequality in advanced capitalist societies and middle-income economies. Countries such as Canada, the United States, and Sweden will be studied to compare cross-national variations of social safety nets in industrialized economies. Topics covered will include labour market policies, social assistance, unemployment insurance, health care, family allowances, and childcare.
